Author Bio

Carol Vandesteeg is the author of When Duty Calls. She also speaks on deployment-related topics. Mrs. Vandesteeg earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Auburn University at Montgomery , Alabama . Her work experience includes positions as Associate Publisher at Black Belt Press and as a technical editor for CH2M HILL, an international engineering consulting firm. She began writing in 1995. She has had articles published in print in the Air Scoop magazine, Command magazine, the Stars and Stripes, the Northern Star, Lifelines magazine, and Filibuster magazine; and online at www.saworship.com and at www.militarywivesandmoms.org.

Mrs. Vandesteeg was a military spouse for over twenty-four years. She and her husband had assignments at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; George AFB, California; Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan; McConnell AFB, Kansas; Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Richmond, Virginia; Chaplain Service Institute (CSI), Air University, Maxwell AFB, Alabama; Joint Headquarters, United States European Command, Stuttgart, Germany; Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany; Minot AFB, North Dakota; Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland AFB, Texas; the Air Force Personnel Center, Randolph AFB, Texas; and the Air Education and Training Command, Randolph AFB, Texas.

During his career Chaplain Vandesteeg deployed four times, so Carol knows by experience what military family separation involves. She presented “The Wives’ Perspective on Deployment” at the UASF Chaplains’ School from 1993 to 1995.

Carol Vandesteeg and her husband, Ren, have two sons, Mike and Dan. Mrs. Vandesteeg is from Grand
Rapids, Michigan. She and her husband live in San Antonio , Texas.
